Mark Hartman

Mark is a criminal defense lawyer who works tirelessly to right wrongs and fiercely defend the right to trial by jury. A Wichita native, Mark’s practice has taken him to courtrooms all over Kansas. Prior to joining Bath & Edmonds, Mark worked as an Assistant Public Defender in the Sedgwick County Public Defender’s Office in Wichita. During his time in Wichita, Mark conducted fifteen jury trials on charges ranging from allegations of domestic violence and DUI to homicide and sexual assault.

Building upon the experience gained in Wichita, Mark was hired as the Chief Public Defender in the Western Regional Public Defender’s Office based in Garden City. As Chief, Mark represented clients from many different communities in western Kansas. His work focused heavily on defending allegations of narcotics trafficking and violent crime.

Representing people suspected or accused of wrongdoing is much more of a calling for Mark than it is a job. To Mark, the practice of law is all about serving clients. And the way you best serve clients is by listening to them.

Mark’s work in criminal defense has introduced him to a number of people who have suffered catastrophic trauma prior to their involvement with the legal system. Mark has learned much about the intersection of neurology and the criminal legal system, particularly about how high dosages of trauma affect brain development. Mark hopes to continue to expand his knowledge in this area and use this knowledge to advocate for his clients.
